Willow - Year 1/2
Welcome to Willow Class.
In Willow Class our teachers are Miss Peake and Mrs Dykes (mornings) and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Williams. Mrs Houghton works in our class every Thursday afternoon. Miss Wright will look after us at lunch time.
We are looking forward to our Autumn term. We will be learning about...
Phonics - We will be continuing our phonics scheme, Little Wandle, and we will have daily phonics sessions using this scheme. We will continue to practise reading and spelling our tricky words.
English - We will write some recounts from our summer holidays and then share a story with a familiar setting - NoBot's New Bottom. We will then share some stories related to the common theme of Autumn. These will include The Squabbling Squirrels, The Leaf Thief and Fox's Favourite Autumn. We will finish the half term reading and writing some poems based on the weather.
Maths - We will be continue to follow the Red Rose Maths Scheme. Our units for this term include Place Value, measuring length, addition and subtraction and shape. We will also have our Mastering number session each morning.
Science: In Year One (Willow Buds) we will be learning about the different parts of our body and our senses. In Year Two (Willow Flowers) we will also be learning about the human body - how we grow and how we can keep healthy.
History: After the half term break will be learning about Florence Nightingale and her impact on nursing.
Geography: In the first half term we will be learning about weather.
Religion: We will be learning about the story of Creation and discussing how we can help to look after our world. We will also be celebrating our Harvest Festival.
Music: We will be learning about the pulse, rhythm and pitch in a variety of music.
PSHE: We will start the half term discussing our class rules and getting to know our new friends and teachers.
PE: Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays (This will be confirmed on Dojo Class Story at the end of the first week). The children can come to school dressed in their PE kits on these days.
Things your child needs to bring to school every day:

Further details about the curriculum and homework etc will be discussed at Meet The Teacher on Tuesday 10th September.
We are looking forward to getting to know you all and can't wait to get started on our exciting topics.
