Willow - Year 1/2
Welcome to Willow Class.
In Willow Class our teachers are Miss Peake and Ms McPherson (until 10:30am each morning) and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Williams. Ms McPherson also works in our class on Thursday afternoons.

Phonics - Children in Year One will continue to follow our phonics scheme, Little Wandle. We will have daily phonics sessions using this scheme. We will continue to practise reading and spelling our tricky words. During our guided reading sessions we will practise our decoding, expression and comprehension skills. Children in Year Two will continue to follow our Little Wandle Spelling Scheme.
English - Our first text is "There's a beach in my pants!" We will practise using adjective to make our writing interesting and exciting. Then we will share some seaside poems and then write some ourselves. Finally we will share the learn about Beatrix Potter and share the story of Peter Rabbit.
Maths - We will continue to follow the Red Rose Maths Scheme. We will start with Place Value and Number and then use this knowledge to measure length. Later in the term we will learn about multiplication and division.
Science: Year One will be learning about animals and how they are classified - mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. We will go Blackpool Zoo on 22nd June as part of our studies.
Year Two will learn about habitats and we will go to Martin Mere on 28th April to study various habitats.
History: In the first half term we will be learning about Queen Elizabeth II.
Geography: In the second half term we will learn about the seven continents around the world.
Computing: Year One will learn about digital writing - using the keyboard on a laptop to complete simple tasks. Year Two will use Chrome Music Lab to create their own digital music.
Religion: In the first half term we will be learning about Islam and how Muslims feel it is important to celebrate and care for our natural world.
Art: In our Art lessons we will be learning how to collage using a variety of materials.
Music: Children in Year Two will continue learning how to play the descant recorder. Children in Year One will use a range of percussion instruments to follow the rhythm of the music we listen to.
PSHE: The children will be discussing various ways to stay safe - what to do in an emergency or if they are lost. The fire service will visit us in school on 16th April to discuss fire safety around the home.
PE: Our PE days are Mondays and Thursdays. Both sessions will be taught by a coach from Lancashire Sports Partnership.
