Willow - Year 1/2
Welcome to Willow Class.
In Willow Class our teachers are Miss Peake and Ms McPherson (until 10:30am each morning) and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Williams. Ms McPherson also works in our class on Thursday afternoons.
We are looking forward to our Autumn term. We will be learning about...
Phonics - We will continue to follow our phonics scheme, Little Wandle. We will have daily phonics sessions using this scheme. We will continue to practise reading and spelling our tricky words. During our guided reading sessions we will practise our decoding, expression and comprehension skills.
English - Our first text is "No Bots New Bottom". We will then read several texts based on Autumn - The Squirrels that Squabble, The Leaf Thief and Wind poetry. After the half term break we will complete a unit of work about writing letters using Dear Postman and Dear Dinosaur. We will also read 'On the Way Home', sequencing events and using story language.
Maths - We will start the term learning about teen numbers. We will then continue to follow the Red Rose Maths Scheme. Our units for this term include Number and Place Value, measuring length, addition and 2D & 3D shapes. After half term we will study fractions (halves), measuring capacity, money and time.
Science: Children in Year One will be learning about themselves - labelling parts of their body and how our senses help us make sense of the world. Children in Year Two will be learning about how we care for our bodies and what we need to stay alive.
History: In the first half term we will be learning about the history of toys.
Geography: In the second half term we will learn about the geography of our school and the local area around school.

Religion: In the first half term we will be learning about Christenings and why they are important to Christians. After half term we will share the Nativity story and learn how Christians believe Jesus is a gift.
Music: We will study the elements of music - melody, rhythm, harmony, timbre, dynamics, texture and form. After half term we will be singing Christmas songs and practising for our Christmas assemblies.
PSHE: During the first half term we will be learning about Families and Relationships. The children will explore how families can be different and consider the relationships within those families. After half term we will discuss our health and well being, considering methods of relaxation and the importance of sleep.
