Welcome to Willow Class.

In Willow Class our teachers are Miss Peake and Ms McPherson (until 10:30am each morning)  and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Williams. Ms McPherson also works in our class on Thursday afternoons. 

We are looking forward to our Spring term. We will be learning about...

Phonics - Children in Year One will continue to follow our phonics scheme, Little Wandle. We will have daily phonics sessions using this scheme.  We will continue to practise reading and spelling our tricky words. During our guided reading sessions we will practise our decoding, expression and comprehension skills. Children in Year Two will begin our Little Wandle Spelling Scheme. 

English - Our first text is "Man on the Moon". We will share the story and make predictions and then share some non fiction texts about Space. We will also write letters. After half term we will share the traditional tale - Little Red Riding Hood. We will then share "Little Red Reading Hood" and write our own version of the story.

Maths - We will continue to follow the Red Rose Maths Scheme. We will start with Place Value and Number and then use this knowledge to measure length. Later in the term we will learn about multiplication and division.

Science: Our topic for this term is Materials and their properties. We will be learning about raw materials and why certain materials are used for various objects.

History: In the first half term we will be learning about the Great Fire of London.

Geography: In the second half term we will learn about the four countries in the UK. We will learn the names of the capital cities in each country. 

Computing: In the first half term the children will learn how to program a simple robot - BeeBots. After half term children in Year One will use computers to group data and children in Year Two will use computers to create pictograms. 

Religion: In the first half term we will be learning about Judaism. We will learn about Passover and build a Sukkah in our classroom. 

Art: In our Art lessons we will be learning how to weave. We will create an image from the Great Fire of London. 

Music: Children in Year Two will learn how to play the descant recorder. Children in Year One will listen to fire themed music through the ages eg Chariots of Fire. We will use a range of percussion instruments to follow the rhythm of the music we listen to. 

PSHE: During the first half term we will continue to discuss our health and wellbeing. We will then complete a unit of work considering various ways to stay safe. 

PE: Our PE days are Mondays  and Thursdays. Both sessions will be taught by a coach from Lancashire Sports Partnership.
