Aughton Town Green Primary School — Upper Juniors (Years 5 & 6)

Welcome to Class Oak! We are so excited to be back at school and dive into a fantastic new year of learning. Being in the Upper Juniors comes with wonderful opportunities; our students hold extra responsibilities and take pride in setting an amazing example as excellent role models for the younger children. We always put 100% into everything we do!

📚 What We Are Learning This Half-Term

• English: We will begin our autumn term curriculum, focusing on advanced reading comprehension and writing skills.
• Maths: We are kicking off the term with place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, while continuously sharpening our arithmetic and reasoning skills.
• Science: Our topic is 'Properties of Materials'.
• History: We will be exploring local history with our unit on the Evacuation from Liverpool to Aughton and Ormskirk during World War II.
• DT (Design & Technology): We will put our engineering skills to the test by constructing bridges out of various materials.
• Computing: Students will learn data literacy by creating their own flat-file databases.
• Music: We will be exploring the core question: 'How does music bring us together?'
• PE: Our physical education focuses on tactical skills linked to invasion games, specifically football and rugby.
• RE: Focusing on Christianity, we will explore the ethical question: 'Why is it sometimes hard to do the right thing?'
• PSHE: Our health and well-being focus will be 'My Health'.

 

🗓️ Important Days & Weekly Routine

🏃‍♂️ PE Days: Wednesday & Friday

• What to wear: Year 5 and Year 6 students should come to school already wearing their PE kits on these days.
• Weather prep: Please ensure they wear their tracksuits/jogging bottoms and trainers so they are comfortable outdoor or indoor.

 

📝 Homework & Spellings

• Hand-out & Hand-in Day: Homework is handed out every Friday and must be completed and returned by the following Friday.
• What’s included: Weekly spelling practice and daily reading for enjoyment. (Please remember to keep reading records up to date!)
• Year 6 Extension: To prepare for the end of the year, Year 6 students will receive additional Arithmetic, Reading, and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar) homework.
• Where to find details: Specific homework tasks and the weekly spelling lists will be posted directly to our Class Dojo page.
• Spelling Test: Our weekly spelling test takes place every Friday.
