Juniper Class - Year 6

 Welcome to Class Juniper

Welcome to Class Juniper!  Our final year at Town Green is here.

Our teacher is Miss Jones.  Our teaching assistants are Mrs Noble and Mrs Bolland.

Here is a summary of some of the work we will be completing in the Autumn Term:

English:

We have started the year by looking at the poem, ‘The Highwayman’.  We have explored, performed and written our own versions.  Next we will look at the novels Kaspar Prince of Cats and Letters from the Lighthouse, as well as writing some explanations.  We are working very hard with our spelling, handwriting and grammar.

Reading is very important to us and we will read every day.  Our reading for pleasure book is Friend or Foe.

Maths:

We are starting the year by working on our place value skills:  comparing, ordering and adding powers of 10 to numbers up to 1000000.

Science: Our topic for this term is Properties of Materials.  We had fun in our first lesson sorting materials and testing their hardness and transparency!

History: Our topic is World War 2, focussing on the experience of evacuees to Ormskirk and Aughton.

Art:  We are looking at the artwork of Henry Moore and developing our drawing skills.

Computing: We are working on creating databases.

P.E/Games:

Our PE lessons will be on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Monday- Dance in the hall

Tuesday- Football outdoors

We will come to school in our PE kits with trainers on these days.  We do not need to bring our uniform- we will stay in our kits all day.

Our important things to remember:

Homework:

We need to record what we are currently reading in our Reading Records.  There is a reward of extra break time if we do this.

Spellings- we work on our spellings during the week and have a test on Friday.  We are following the Emile spelling scheme.

We will also use TTRS and Hit the Button to practise our times tables at home.

Keep an eye on our Class Dojo page for updates!
