Class DW - Year 2
Welcome to Class DW
Mrs Dickson teaches our class Monday to Thursday and Mrs Woodward teaches our class on Fridays. Mrs McLoughlin is in our class every morning.
Here's what we will be doing in the Spring term.
English - We will start the term by looking at winter poetry and stories and work on making our writing really descriptive. We are looking forward to our 'traditional tales' unit where we will be reading 'The Three Little Pigs' and writing our own versions. After half term our topic is 'Penguins'! We will be learning all about this fascinating animal and writing non-fiction reports and our own penguin adventure stories. If we work hard we will celebrate with a penguin day and come to school dressed as penguins!
Maths - We will be improving our number skills, especially place value and calculating using tens and units. We enjoy playing lots of games to help us learn! Our targets for this half term are to learn the three times table and to practise telling the time. Keep practising at home!
Science - We will be learning about materials. After half term we will learn about habitats. This will be linked to our Geography topic.
Topic - We are excited to be learning about what life was like for Victorian children. We will transform our role play corner into a Victorian school (complete with backboard, finger stocks and dunce hat!). After half term our topic is 'animals from around the world'.
Art and DT - We are studying 'sculpture' and creating sculptures from various materials. After half term we will practise our sewing skills and make a sewn soft animal toy.
Music - We are very excited to be learning to play the recorder!
Computing - Our first unit is photography. We will improve our skills and display our photos in our classroom. After half term we will be using the internet to research.
RE - We are learning about Islam. We will also learn about the Easter story.
PSHE - Our topic for this term is 'Good to be me!'
Spanish - We are looking forward to learning Spanish with Mrs Culshaw.
PE - We are looking forward to having PE with a coach from West Lancashire School Sports Partnership.
