Class D - Year 4
Welcome to the Class D webpage!
Welcome to Year 4. Your class teacher is Mrs Dykes. On Wednesdays, Mrs Woodward and Mr Huxley will teach Maths, and PSHE. On Fridays in the Autumn term, Mrs Matthews will be teaching 4D, teaching English, Maths and PE. Mrs Blackledge will be working with us for most of the week, with Mrs Ellis on Mondays.
Year 4 is a very exciting year, we will go swimming on Friday afternoons at Park Pool during the first half term, and again in the second half term - January to February, learning different techniques and skills. We are sure that the children will love this opportunity to refine and improve their skills and we are hoping to practice some survival techniques!
On Wednesdays, we have instrumental lessons with Mr Watkins and we are learning how to play the cornet or baritone horn. I am sure that you will be amazed how quickly the children pick it up! Over the next few weeks, we will be learning to read and play music and will be bringing home pieces to practice.
Our topics this term:
This term our focus is the Stone Age to the Iron Age We will be studying Stone Age life and how life changed as we moved into the Iron Age. Our English will link closely, through reading and analysing Stig of the Dump, discussing vocabulary and focussing on inference. We will also be looking at fairytales and poetry.
In Maths, we will be looking at place value, number, including addition and subtraction and the column methods, Across all of our maths work, we will be problem solving and reasoning. Mrs Woodward will spend Wednesday morning building our reasoning skills, which will help us solve day to day problems.
In Religious Education, we will be studying Islam and learning more about different cultures and religions . PSHE will focus on 'Going for Goals' and we will be setting our own personal targets that we wish to achieve this term.
So what else do you need to know?
Homework will be given out on a Friday, to be returned on Wednesdays.
Spellings will be handed out on Monday, with the test on Fridays.
Times tables are very important in Year 4, pupils need to know all of their times tables up to 12 x 12 by the end of Year 4. There will be regular, weekly tests and certificates for knowledge of each one will be awarded. Let's see how many people can achieve them all! Cornets / Baritone horns must be brought into school on Wednesdays, in preparation for the lesson and returned home at night.
Children must have their swimming kits in school on Fridays - remember; swimsuit / trunks, towel, swimming cap, goggles ( if parental consent given).
If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to contact myself ( Mrs Dykes) or any of the Year 4 team any night after school or please make an appointment for Wednesdays with the school office. It was lovely to meet so many of you at the Meet the Teacher evening as we get to know our families.
Thank you for all your support over the year and I look forward to meeting you all again at our parents evenings later in the Autumn term.
