Welcome to Aughton Town Green Primary School Only My Best Is Good Enough For Me

Class D - Year 4

Welcome to the Class D webpage!

Welcome to Year 4. Your class teacher is Mrs Dykes. On Wednesdays, Mrs Woodward and Mr Huxley will teach Maths, and PSHE. Mrs Blackledge will be working with us for most of the week, with Mrs Ellis on Mondays. We are really fortunate to also have Miss Riley, a student teacher with the OWL's partnership working with our class this term.

We are very proud of how well Year 4 are doing with their Times Tables. The effort and determination that is going into their practice is amazing. We have some fantastic scores on TT Rockstars and we are competing with local schools! We are taking part in the pilot for the National Multiplication Check in June, so more information will be sent out to parents nearer the time. Meanwhile, please keep encouraging your child to practice - it makes a huge difference!

On Wednesdays, we have instrumental lessons with Mr Watkins and we are continuing learning how to play the cornet or baritone horn. I am sure that you will be amazed how quickly the children pick it up! We are hoping at the end of term, that we will be able to present a short concert to all Year 4 parents to show the skills they have learnt this year. Please help them by practising any pieces which are sent home.

Our topics this term:

Summer Term

This term our focus is our local history unit, Aughton and Ormskirk. This is a new updated unit for Aughton Town Green and one that we are all very excited about. We have started by looking at the school's old log books from when it opened in 1964 and we are hoping to get in a number of visitors and get out and about in the community to find out more about the great place in which we live and learn. If you have any resources which you think might be of use to us, please come in and share them. We would be really grateful.

In Maths, we will be looking at place value, number, including multiplication and division and using more formal methods. Multiplying and dividing by 10 , 100 and 1000 in decimals is a really tricky one,  so will be working hard to master this one!, Across all of our maths work, we will be problem solving and reasoning. Mrs Woodward will spend Wednesday morning building our reasoning skills, which will help us solve day to day problems.

In Religious Education, we will be studying Judaism and learning more about different cultures and religions . Science is based around plants and animals, with a particular focus on growing. We are planning on getting out into our Eco Garden to grow our own vegetables.

So what else do you need to know?

Homework will be given out on a Friday, to be returned on Wednesdays.

Spellings will be handed out on Thursday, with the test on the following Thursday. Pupils are grouped for spellings so these will vary throughout the year but the tests will always be on a Thursday.

Cornets / Baritone horns must be brought into school on Wednesdays, in preparation for the lesson and returned home at night.

Please remember that when the weather warms up, children will need all day sunscreen applied as well as hats and water bottles. This really helps us as we want to make the most of our fantatsic outdoor environment.

If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to contact myself ( Mrs Dykes) or any of the Year 4 team any night after school or please make an appointment for Wednesdays with the school office. It was lovely to meet so many of you at the Meet the Teacher evening as we get to know our families.

Thank you for all your support over the year and your hard work with your child at home. It really makes a difference.
